Marshall, Horace Brooks, Baron Marshall of Chipstead
1865-1936

He was born in London and educated at Dulwich College and Trinity College, Dublin. He received an honorary LLD from Dublin University in 1902. He had a distinguished career in the City of London and was Lord Mayor in 1918. He received a knighthood in 1902, became a Privy Councillor in 1919 and KCVO in 1920 and was created Baron Marshall in 1921. He was chairman of the governors of The Leys School and Grand Treasurer of the Masonic Order. He died on 29 March 1936.

His eldest daughter Laura Marshall married J. Arthur Rank.
