Shaw, Albert
1867-1924

PM class leader and local preacher, born on 16 April 1867 at Quarry Bank, Dudley. He became an ironworker, but at 23 established his own business as a mineral water manufacturer. He was President of the Birmingham Mineral Water Trade Protection Association for 34 years. He became the organist of his local church at 9 and in 1916 was elected Vice-President of the PM Conference, the first from the West Midlands PM District. As a councillor on the local District Council and on the Staffordshire Count Council, he was committed to improving both social conditions and labour relations, especially of the Cradley Heath nail and chain makers. He also served as a JP, but stood unsucceefully as the National Liberal candidate for Newcastle-under-Lyme in1022. He died on 2 May 1924.
