Tremberth, William
1867-1940; e.m. 1889

BC missionary in China, born at St Austell. He joined the Mission in Yunnan in 1890. His companion, John Carter, died before they reached their station at Chaotung and within a year he was conducting Samuel Thomas Thorne's funeral service. In 1894 he married a missionary colleague, Emily Bailey. In his devotion to the work he undertook much arduous travelling and constant preaching, often with scant response. He returned home in 1906, but an emergency in Ning-po, East China, called him back for four years in 1922. He died on 23 January 1940 at St. Austell.
