Waterhouse, Esther Margaret (née Martin)
1908-1995

Vice-President of the Conference, 1977. She was born on 25 August 1908, the daughter of Dr Frank Martin, a general practitioner in Bradford, and the niece of Sir George Martin. She was the great granddaughter of Dr. George Osborn. She herself became a doctor, graduating from the Royal Free Hospital in 1935. A year later she married John Walters Waterhouse, the son of E.S. Waterhouse) and shared wholeheartedly in his work for the NCH, of which he was Principal 1950-1969. She was medical adviser to Good Housekeeping and wrote the first of their books on baby care. After her husband's death she continued to work for NCH's Action for Children and with MHA. She died in Leamington Spa on 15 April 1995.
