Wood, Annie M.
d.1931

A teacher from Cork, who was an educational missionary in Canton, 1885-1904. She used her considerable literary skills in several pamphlets describing everyday scenes and events in China. After a period of furlough, she returned to China in 1892 accompanied by her 15-year-old sister, Connie Wood. Adventurous and high-spirited, she reported in 1894 that her work gave her 'great encouragement' amidst plague and riots. She died in 1931 or 1932. Another sister, Fanny Wood (c.1874-1955), qualified as a doctor in Edinburgh in 1900 and served in India. She died in January 1955.
