Leading UMFC minister, born on 1 May 1827 at Cury, Helston, where his family were associated with he Cury Teetotal Society. His early training as a lawyer was put to great use in the WMA ministry. His gifts were early recognized and he was appointed Chapel Secretary in 1864, a post he held,in addition to circuit appointments, for nearly 40 years. He was involved in almost all the developments in the UMFC and was President] in 1871; also, in 1907, first President of the UM [[Entry:677 Conference at the age of 80. He supervised the drafting of the UM model deed, was a powerful evangelical preacher and composer of hymns, and wrote a biography of Richard Chew (1896). He died on 2 June 1913 at Leamington.
