Bundy, James
1750-1818

WM local preacher, born at Dymock, Glos. He began as a shepherd boy, but after learning to read and write became a foreman in a Bristol brewery. His success as a preacher brought him increasing notice and a number of legacies, all of which he redistributed among the testators' lawful heirs. He started his own brewing business and for over 30 years was a dedicated prison visitor, first in Bristol and later in London, often passing the night in a criminal's cell. He was a member of Portland Street chapel and a founder member of the Bristol Strangers' Friend Society.
