Chapel Stewards

In order to carry out their responsibilities, the trustees of a chapel appointed their own stewards who received and disbursed seat rents and organized collections for the reduction of debt. The resulting division of authority and responsibilities between the Leaders and the Trustees was sometimes unfortunate. Since autonomous local trusts were abolished by the Methodist Church Act of 1976, these stewards have become Property Stewards responsible to the Church Council.
