Clayton, Albert
1841-1907; e.m. 1862

WM minister, born on 27 September 1841 at Thornton, near Bradford. He served on many connexional committees and was WM President in 1906. As Secretary of the Twentieth Century Fund he was largely responsible for its success. He died at St. Leonards-on-Sea on 11 September 1907.

Two sons served as missionaries. Albert C.Clayton OBE (c. 1869-1956; e.m. 1892) was born at St. Helens and served in India, dying at Bournemouth on 8 August 1956. George Alfred Clayton (1870-1947; e.m. 1895) was born at Edgworth, Lancs. He went to Hupeh,China in 1895, serving the Central China Religious Tract Society 1916-30, and wrote Methodism in Central China (1903). He died at Cliftonville, Margate on 3 January 1947.
