Davies, John Cadvan
1846-1923; e.m. 1871

Welsh WM minister, born at Llangadfan, Montgomeryshire on 1 October 1846 and known by his bardic name 'Cadfan'. He had a distinguished 40-year ministry in North and Central Wales, becoming President of the Welsh Assembly in 1910. He excelled as a poet, winning the crown at the National Eisteddfod more than once and being elected Archdruid of Wales in 1923. He published four selections of his poetry and contributed many hymns to Welsh WM hymnals, the best of which survived into the 1927 book still in use. He died at Oswestry on 12 October 1923.
