Bell, John Anthony
1942-

Vice-President of the Conference, 2005-06. Son of the Rev. Reuben Bell (1912- 1990; e.m.1945), he was born in Dilston, Northumberland and educated at Monkwearmouth Grammar School, Sunderland, Heaton Grammar School,Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Manchester University (BA (Econ) 1963) and Leeds University (Diploma in Industrial Management 1964). His professional career was spent with Royal Philips Electronics (1964-2000) in the field of information technology, being appointed to directorships in a number of its subsidiary companies. He became a local preacher in1968 and has held numerous circuit and district offices. Connexional offices include Chair of the Ministerial Candidates Selection Committee (2001-04), the first lay person in that appointment, Chair of the Business and Economics Advisory Group (2006- ), Chair of the Stationing Review Group (2006) and a member of the Methodist Council (2001-2007) and the Strategy and Resources Committee (2002-2008). He is also a Director of the Christian Guild Hotels Group and active in youth charities in Manchester. He is now a member at Norley in the Delamere Forest Circuit. His interests include sport, walking and music (organ and choral singing).
