Exchange of Pastorates

This programme of the World Methodist Council was initiated in 1947 to encourage greater understanding between member Churches. Initially, and still mainly, between Britain and the USA, the programme involves ministers from two countries exchanging residences and duties for five or six weeks during the summer months. The annual number of exchanges averages about forty. In recent years the programme has been extended in small numbers to other parts of the world and for longer periods, and to include retired ministers and lay people.
