Ovenden, Grace
1915-1955

Missionary in Kenya. Born in Brighton, she grew up wanting to be a missionary in Africa and, after training at Kingsmead College, was sent to Kenya, where her job was to encourage parents to send their daughters to a newly opened girls' school in Meru. Once this was flourishing she was sent to build up another in Ribe on the coast. Her main attention there was given to teacher training. She became caught up in the Revival Movement in Kenya, along with many of her African friends who became victims of the Mau Mau movement. She herself was killed in a road accident in Meru on 23 January 1955.
