Forsyth, Samuel
1881-1960; e.m. 1908

Irish evangelist, born in Co Tyrone to farming parents. He emigrated to Australia in 1901 and in 1929 was appointed Superintendent of the Adelaide central Mission. He was an excellent fund-raiser and organizer, with a very real concern for those in need. During the 1930s Depression he established Kuitpo Colony as a self-supporting community for unemployed men. In 1940 it became a home for the rehabilitation of alcoholics. He was responsible for the purchasing of radio station 5KA in 1944 and the establishment of Aldersgate Village to provide homes for the elderly.
