WM minister, born at Clapham on 16 April 1898. After military service in France, where he was both wounded and gassed, he entered Didsbury College. His literary and cultural interests are reflected in his Liverpool MA thesis, published as The Romantic Movement and Methodism (1937). He wrote popular studies of John and Charles Wesley, and two volumes of brief Christian biographies for devotional reading, The Glorious Company, as well as scripts for radio and TV. Retiring in 1954, he became North West area Secretary for the United Society for Christian Literature. He died suddenly at Colwyn Bay on 16 June 1974 after a heart attack.
