Atomic physicist and local preacher, born on 7 November 1929. Graduating from Wadham College, Oxford, he gained his PhD for research on atomic spectra and was appointed to a Chair at Newcastle University in 1961. He wrote Science and Faith (1968), was Vice-President of the Conference in 1970 and gave a memorable address to the 1971 World Methodist Conference in Denver. He died on 29 December 1973.
