Johnson, Dr Robert Crawford
1841-1914; e.m. 1865

Irish minister, born on 15 June 1841 at Antrim and educated at Wesley College, Dublin and Didsbury College. He was a key figure in initiating the Belfast Central Mission, becoming its first Superintendent (1889-1905) and establishing its headquarters at the first Grosvenor Hall. He laid the foundation for the Mission's high-profile ministry, through open-air preaching, work with the needy and civic contacts. He became Secretary of the Irish Conference in 1893 and was Vice-President in 1898. He died in Belfast on 5 April 1914.
