Legion of Service

The Legion and the associated Fellowship of Service were launched by the 1922 UM Annual Assembly. The Legion claimed to be different from either the Christian Endeavour or the Wesley Guild in that 'its spiritual aims and devotional plans' were 'based on modern educational principles'. The Fellowship's aim was to help leaders in every type of young people's work. Its outlook was wider than the circuit and it aimed to make leaders aware of their connexional responsibility. Both movements grew steadily and brought into the Union of 1932 a form of youth service especially valuable in towns where the UMC was strong.
