Lightley, Dr John William
1867-1948; e.m. 1892

He was born on 24 June 1867 at Simonside, South Shields. He was WM minister of the Methodist Church in Paris 1901-1907, Old Testament Tutor at Headingley College 1910-1916 and Chairman of the Leeds District 1915-1930. He was President of the 1928 Conference. Returning to Headingley as Principal and Resident Tutor from 1930 to 1936, he fostered closer relations with the University of Leeds. His publications included the 1919 Fernley Lecture on Jewish Sects and Parties in the Time of Christ. He died in Leeds on 14 June 1948.
