One of the early missionaries appointed by Thomas Coke to the West Indies. Ordained by Wesley at the 1788 Conference, he was stationed in Antigua, and then in St Vincent, where he was imprisoned for preaching to Negro slaves. On his release he served in Barbados, but returned to England in 1793 due to ill health and worked in home circuits until his retirement in 1826. He died at Knaresborough on 2 March 1847.
