Evangelical clergyman, born in Horncastle. From Kingswood School he went up to St. Edmund Hall, Oxford and was one of the six Calvinistic students expelled in 1768 for Methodist practices. He enrolled at King's College, Cambridge, but apparently left without graduating. Ordained by the Bishop of Down for the Church of Ireland, he was a minister in Dalkeith and various parishes in London and Westminster. In 1777 he succeeded A.M. Toplady as editor of the Gospel Magazine. The four volumes of his Biographia Evangelica were published in 1779-1786 and his Versions and Imitations of Psalms and Life of Luther appeared posthumously in 1806 and 1807.
