Northridge, Dr William L.
1886-1966; e.m. 1910

Distinguished Irish preacher, scholar and writer, born at Ballineen, Co. Cork on 26 April 1886 and educated at Methodist College, Belfast. In 1922 he obtained his PhD at Queen's University, which conferred an honorary DD on him in 1957. As tutor at Edgehill College in 1926 and Principal from 1943, he exerted great influence on the training of both ministers and lay people. He played an important part in the development of educational policy in Northern Ireland and was President of the Irish Methodist Church in 1944. He was much in demand as a speaker on both sides of the Atlantic. His books include Psychology and Pastoral Practice (1947) and Disorders of the Emotional and Spiritual Life (1961). He died on 9 December 1966.
