Packer, Dr George
1843-1920; e.m. 1865

MNC minister, born on 6 January 1843, whose administrative gifts brought him connexional prominence. He was Ranmoor College Secretary for eight years, Secretary of the 1888 Conference, secretary of the Centenary Fund 1894-98, Overseas Missionary Secretary 1897-1900, a post later combined with that of Home Missions Secretary. He was President of the Conference in 1895, and went as a delegate to both the 1891 and 1901 Ecumenical Conferences. He edited the official centenary history of the Methodist New Connexion in 1897.

He played a key role in the negotiations which led to the 1907 Union and was Connexional Secretary of the United Methodist Church 1907-1920 and one of the original UM Guardian Representatives. He was elected UM President in 1911. He died on 7 September 1920.
