Prickard, John
1744-1784; e.m. 1775

Born on 3 August 1744 at New Mote, Pembrokeshire, at 17 he went to live with an uncle in Brecon, was appointed a class leader and soon started preaching. He became an itinerant in 1775, first in his native Pembrokeshire and later in Ireland. In 1778 there was a possible opening for a mission to West Africa and he was one of those who volunteered; but the Conference of that year followed Wesley's guidance by turning down the opportunity. For much of his ministry he was subject to bouts of fever, made worse by his preaching often in bad weather. His last circuit was London and he died in 1784.
