WM minister, born in March, Cambs, on 2 February 1836. He entered the ministry from Hull. During eight years in Scottish circuits he sought to promote evangelistic missions through the Relief and Extension Fund. He was Secretary of the Chapel Committee 1876-97; then moved to the Home Mission office. He was closely involved in initiating the Manchester Central Mission and the Forward Movement which it inaugurated. He was President of the 1893 Conference. In retirement his literary interest focused especially on the mystics. He died in London on 16 July 1912.
