Evangelical rector of St. Mary's, Kilkenny, Ireland. He was credited with initiating the evangelical revival in the Church of Ireland in the first half of the 19th century. Between 1800 and 1802 he visited Dublin and met Thomas Coke, Darragh and Matthias Joyce and laymen such as R. Bennett Dugdale, Arthur Keene and Isaac D'Olier. At first favourable to Methodism, he was later critical, probably because of the separation of the WMs from the Church of Ireland. He was an early suporter of the Hibernian Bible Society and the Hibernian Church Missionary Society.
