Rogers, David
1783-1824; e.m. 1805

Welsh WM minister, born in Denbighshire and converted by Edward Jones, Bathafarn in 1800. He became a local preacher in 1803 and served in Liverpool before entering the ministry. Thereafter he served with Owen Davies and John Bryan in the Welsh mission and in 1816 succeeded Davies as Chairman of the Welsh District, until he was transferred to the English work in 1819. An eminent preacher and a man of acute intellect with widely varied literary and theological interests, he wrote much to enrich the early Welsh WMs. He edited Yr Eurgrawn 1812-1814, contributing much himself, and was editor of the 1812 hymn-book and jointly responsible for that of 1817.
