Savin, Lewis
1864-1918; e.m. 1887

BC missionary in China, born in Faversham on 18 August 1864. After teaching and circuit work in England he undertook medical training at the request of the Missionary Committee and joined the BC mission in Yunnan in 1896 as both minister and doctor. He married a missionary colleague, Kate Howe, in 1898. Retiring and reserved, he disliked publicity, but was meticulous and exact in all his work. After the Boxer troubles in 1900 he set up the Mission Hospital in Chaotung, where his medical skills and caring concern won him universal respect and trust. He died on 30 January 1918.
