Irish minister, born on 13 May 1864 at Newtownards, Co. Down. A skilled debater and able administrator, he served with particular distinction in educational affairs. When the Northern Ireland Parliament was established in 1921, he was appointed a chaplain. He became Vice-President of the Methodist Conference in Ireland in 1921, the first to be known as President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, and was again President in 1927. He died in Belfast on 14 July 1949.
