Storey, Winship
1891-1950

He was born on Tyneside on 13 December 1891. Though a local preacher, he was prevented by poor health from entering the ministry and became a partner in the family estate agency. He was District lay representative on the connexional Home Missions Committee 1937-1944, being succeeded by H.C. Pawson, and from 1944 to 1947 was a representative to Conference. In 1947 he attended the World Methodist Conference at Springfield, Mass. He contributed as an 'associate member for consultation and correspondence' to the drafting of The Message and Mission of Methodism (1946). His frequent contributions to the Methodist Recorder were characterized by whimsical humour, 'charity in judgment, but scorn for all that is petty and sordid' and towards the end of his life wrote And Hearts are Brave Again (1949) and Give God Something to Build On (1951). He died on 24 September 1950.
