Swindells, Robert
e.m. 1741; d.1783

One of the English preachers who laid the foundations of Methodism in Ireland. He joined the itinerancy in 1741 and accompanied John Wesley on his 1748 Irish tour. Later that year he journeyed with Charles Wesley when Methodism was introduced into important towns in the south of Ireland. He remained behind and was instrumental in converting several key figures, including Thomas Walsh and Elizabeth Bennis, as well as ministering to the Palatine community. Another of his converts, Col. Pigot, provided him in gratitude with an annuity of £40. He died at Stockport, England on 21 October 1782.
