Taylor, Henry James
1859-1945; e.m. 1881

PM minister, born in Ireland on 9 May 1859, and educated at Sunderland College, Hartley College and New College, London. He was an outstanding speaker, preacher and administrator, with a particular interest in temperance and social topics. He served as Secretary of the PM Missionary Society and as President of the Christian Endeavour Union and the National Sunday School Union. He delivered the 1921 Hartley Lecture on The Challenge of Freedom. He was President of the PM Conference in 1922 and was a tireless worker for Methodist Union. At the Methodist Church Congress in 1929 he spoke on 'Methodism and the World' and also on 'The Methodist Church as a Centre of Redeeming Love'. He died on 16 January 1945.
