Born at Brook Farm, Lyonshall near Kington, Herefords, she joined the Methodists c. 1799. She began to preach under the influence of Mary (Bosanquet) Fletcher, whom she visited and with whom she corresponded. She had begun preaching by 1809 and encouraged Mary Tooth to continue preaching after Mrs. Fletcher's death. Invited to open both English and Welsh chapels, she travelled on her white pony over a wide area, preaching from Ledbury to Aberystwyth and Machynlleth and from Brecon to Bishop's Castle. She was a formidable personality and persuasive speaker.
