WM minister, born at Huddersfield on 27 January 1811. He was tutor in Biblical Literature and Classics in the Theological Institution at Hoxton and then at Didsbury College from 1841 to 1849. As Connexional Editor from 1851 to 1865, he was concerned to guard the Methodist people against sceptical influences. He represented British Methodism at the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1864, towards the close of the American Civil War, and was President of the WM Conference the same year. He died suddenly at Hackney on 5 March 1865, during his year of office.
