Toms, Mary (Mrs Warder)
1785-1871

A WM from Tintagel, she joined the BCs in 1817 after hearing William O'Bryan preach and became an itinerant in 1820. Her services always attracted crowds and won many converts. In 1823 she became convinced of a call to become the first BC missionary to the Isle of Wight and raised the fare to get there. In 1824 she married William Warder and settled on the island. In 1833, though no longer an itinerant, she was the first BC to preach in Chichester and form a society there.
