Vanstone, Thomas Grills

BC missionary in China, born at West Putford, Devon, on 16 March 1851. He was a colleague of Samuel T. Thorne in establishing the BC Mission in Yunnan, China, in 1885. He worked chiefly in Yunnan Fu (Kunming), but also opened the station at Hweitseh (Tungchuan). He was invalided home in 1893 with persistent malaria, from which he never fully recovered. He died at Chagford on 18 May 1898.
