He was born on 5 April 1929 in Leeds and was brought up at the former Southfield Primitive Methodist Church in the then Leeds (Armley) Circuit. He spent his working life with the Legal and General Assurance Company. His financial expertise served the Methodist Church, and especially its missionary work, in many capacities. At an early age he joined the Life Boys and served the Boys Brigade movement throughout his life, becoming president of the Yorkshire and Humberside Brigade. He became a local preacher in 1953 and was in considerable demand in the Leeds District and beyond, becoming LPMAA president in 1992. He was a member of Scholes Methodist Church in the Leeds (Richmond Hill) Circuit. He became a JP in 1977 and was also involved with the West Yorkshire Probation Service. He died suddenly on 14 September 2008.
