Gee, Ruth Mary

President of the Conference 2013-14. Born into a Methodist family in Hindon, Wiltshire she was educated at Hindon Primary School and South Wilts Grammar School for Girls, Salisbury, and read theology at Hull University, gaining the BA degree in 1976. After a brief period as a student nurse she trained as a teacher at Winchester, 1978-79 and held teaching posts in Religious Studies and English at schools in Oxfordshire and Dorset. She became a Local Preacher in 1979 and was accepted for the ministry in 1994. She studied on the Southern Dioceses Ministerial Training Scheme for one year and then transferred in 1995 to the Northern Ordination Course while stationed in the Bradford (Trinity) Circuit, 1995-2000, gaining an M.Litt from Bristol University in 1999. She was ordained in 1997. After serving in an ecumenical appointment at Hipperhome in the Halifax Circuit 2000-08, she was appointed Chair of the Darlington District. She was a member of the Faith and Order Committee for two periods and of the Joint Implementation Commission under the Anglican-Methodist Covenant from 2008 to 2014. She is Moderator of the Forum of Churches Together in England and of its Enabling Group and is a Patron of the National Justice and Peace Network. She became Chair of the Methodist Council in 2015.
