Carter, William
1862-1932

Trade unionist and Labour politician. The son of a coal miner, in his youth he attendedMansfield PM chapel and then became a local preacher on the Nottingham (Canaan Street) PM Circuit. He was a life-long PM and led a Bible Class. He was a Nottinghamshire miners' agent, President of the Nottinghamshire Miners Association in 1909, and would later serve as its General Secretary, 1926 to 1932. He was the Labour member for Mansfield, 1918 to 1922.
