Taylor, J(ohn) Harryman
1867-1931; em: 1894

PM minister, born at Brompton, near Northallerton, in March 1867, the son of the Rev. John Taylor (1836-1905; em: 1859). He was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then from October 1886 at St. John's College, Cambridge, where he took the Mathematics Tripos, graduating MA in 1889. While at Cambridge he began to preach and on leaving he trained for three years for the PM ministry at Mansfield College, Oxford at the time A.S. Peake was on its staff. Taylor was responsible with W.P. Hartley for Peake's transfer to Hartley College, Manchester. He had outstanding gifts as a preacher and was a capable administrator. With declining health, he superannuated to the Kendal PM Circuit in 1928, settling at Windermere. A year before his death he was appointed a director of the Primitive Methodist Chapel Aid. He died on 6 February 1931, his funeral service being conducted by A.L. Humphries, a friend from his Cambridge days.
