Wesleyan Methodists
A Wesleyan Society was meeting for worship in private houses in Herne by 1814. The first chapel was built in the 1830s; this structure, in what became called Chapel Row, was replaced in 1887 by a chapel and schoolroom on the High Street, opened on 21 September 1887.
After some false starts in Herne Bay in the 1840s, a new work began in 1883, with a congregation worshipping in the Town Hall. A church was built on the corner of High Street and Beach Street, and opened on 26 August 1885. In 2002 the Methodist congregation combined with the United Reformed Church and the High Street chapel was closed.
A new initiative at Beltinge, launched in 1952, closed in 2013.
