Arnold, William
1768-1832

Born in Hampshire, he was choirmaster of St. Peter's WM chapel, Daniel Street, Portsmouth, and wrote down many of his tunes while at work as a shipwright in Portsmouth Dockyard. He published Original Psalm and Hymn Tunes (c.1801), from which two of his tunes were taken in Hymns and Psalms, 'Josiah' (HP 55 and 438) and 'Job' (HP 710); the former is still in Singing the Faith (no. 683).
