President of the MNC Conference in 1800, he entered the WM ministry in 1792. At the height of Kilham's agitation in 1796 he advocated moderation in the Alnwick Circuit, but joined the MNC in 1797 and was President in 1800. He left its ministry in 1802 and is said to have become the pastor of an Independent congregation. He later settled in business in Leeds, was reconciled to WM and became a local preacher.
