He was born at Camberwell, London on 14 September 1897 and worked as a railway pension officer. He was pianist and choirmaster at Harebreaks Methodist Church, North Watford and published a booklet of hymns for local use. The tune 'Watford' (HP 735) was written for the hymn 'Jesus, the first and last'. He died at Watford on 28 November 1976.
