UMFC minister, educated at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, where he obtained a First in the Mathematical Tripos. He quickly established himself not only as an outstanding preacher, but as a church statesman. He was Chapel Secretary from 1919 to 1932. His gentlemanly courtesy as an administrator served the Church in good stead during the Union negotiations. E. Benson Perkins remembered him as 'a man of quite exceptional ability and fine spirit'. He was the last UM President before Methodist Union in 1932 and President of the Methodist Conference in 1935. He died on 7 April 1944.
