PM local preacher, born in 1833 at Newtown, Isle of Man. Moving to Douglas at an early age, he became a member of Wellington Street PM chuch at 17 and a local precher soon after. In 1862 he founded a photographic business, still a family affair and claiming to be the oldest in the world..He became prominently involved in town affairs in 1874 and was chairman of the Town Commissioners on five occasions. His considerable engineering skills were used for both town and church. He was influential in slum clearance schemes, in the development of Victoria Street and the Loch Promenade. and in the design and building of Loch Parade PM Church. A Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, he built his own observatory and telescope. He died in 1896, six weeks after becoming the town's first Mayor.
