WM minister and early WM Socialist, born on 14 March 1868 at Helston. He trained at Richmond College and his ministry was mainly in London and other urban circuits. To his London BA he added a BD from St. Andrews, where he was later awarded an honorary DD. In addition to his interest in liturgy, symbolism in worship and the catholic tradition, he was well read in English and French literature. Despite this he was not included among the WM representatives on the committee that produced the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book). A member of the Social Democratic Federation with similar views to those of S.E. Keeble, he believed in the collective ownership of national resources. His distinctive voice and lively sense of humour served him well in open-air preaching, in which he delighted. He retired in 1936 and died on 6 January 1937.
