The Fund was previously called the Mission and Service Fund and before that the General Assessment). It is raised by a levy on the Districts, which in turn assess their Circuits. The fund defrays such central costs as the running of the Conference Office, District Chairmen's stipends and much of the other expense at connexional level. The present fund has wide powers of recommending how money should be distributed, as most needed, among Methodist funds, subject to any limitation of previous legal constraints on money given for specific purposes.
