Tackaberry, Fossey
1796-1847; e.m. 1823

Born on 22 October 1796 into a staunchly Protestant home at Tomagaddy, Co. Wexford. He was converted through the preaching of Andrew Taylor (d.1841; e.m. 1796), one of Ireland's General Missionaries who became his early mentor. For some time he worked on the family farm while travelling extensively as a local preacher. Called into the itinerancy in 1823, his ministry was characterized by revivalist and holiness preaching. He had a distrust of Roman Catholicism and opposed Catholic Relief. His final appointment was to Sligo where, after ministering to many victims of the Irish famine he himself succumbed to typhus. He died at Sligo on 3 June 1847.
