Early woman preacher among the Primitive Methodists. She began to take part in services soon after the PM preachers visited her native Kirkoswald. Although her talent for speaking aroused opposition, she became a local preacher at 21 and an itinerant in 1825. She conducted missions in Scotland and Ireland, often in the open air because of the great crowds attracted by the novelty of a woman preacher. She retired on marrying John Vernon of Macclesfield in 1835, but continued as a local preacher for a further fifteen years. She died on 8th January 1850.
